Herbed Stuffing

This all-around popular herbed stuffing plays a great supporting role to the main event. It’s the stuffing you grew up with… only a little fresher, with homemade crusty bread croutons. Stuff your Thanksgiving turkey or heat in a casserole anytime!

Instructions

  • 1.Toast bread in large baking pan or cookie sheet, turning once, until dry (25-30 minutes).
  • 2.In a large skillet over moderately low heat, sauté onions, celery, and dried herbs in butter. Stir occasionally, until celery is softened (10-15 minutes).
  • 3.In large bowl, toss bread, vegetables, broth, water, egg, and salt and pepper to taste.
  • 4.Cool, uncovered. Stuff bird, or save to reheat later in covered casserole at 325°F.

  • 1 pound crusty bread cut to bite-size cubes (about 10 cups)
  • 3 medium onions, chopped
  • 4 celery ribs, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon organic dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon organic dried parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon organic dried sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon organic dried rosemary leaf
  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 1-1/2 cups chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
